Psalm 4

Read Psalm 4.

In the NASB translation of this psalm it is titled “evening prayer of trust in God”. What a peaceful image. Being a night owl myself, I love the dark, quiet that exists in the evenings. Even if I am tired after a busy day (or season), I still love to take time alone in the evenings to just sit and be.

We are all now coming out of a (likely busy) season of Lent, featuring fasting, repentance, reflection; to the somberness of Good Friday, remembering Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf, to the culmination of it all on Easter Sunday, a day filled with joy and gratitude. It is a blessing this Monday after Easter to take a deep breath and meditate on the peace that comes with trusting in God. We rest in the knowledge that “the Lord hears when I call to him” (vs 3). We are encouraged to reflect on the day, pondering our thoughts and actions, calling out to God in our distress. We know that He is the author of all good things, and provides for us abundantly. We feel safe in the presence of the Lord, and are able to sleep soundly and in comfort. This is my prayer for you, Christ City Church: for today to be a day to find some quiet, to experience peace in the knowledge of God’s steadfastness, and to get a great night’s rest.
