Psalm 7

Read Psalm 7

“O LORD God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me.”

Psalm 7 is a cry of distress from David to the LORD when David had been treated unfairly and criticized.  This psalm makes is clear the danger stems from the malice of the persecutors, and not from the wrongdoing of the person in trouble.

David calls out to God to arise as Judge.   (v 11 “God is a righteous judge”).  Only the LORD can judge righteously.  (I Peter 2:23 “….but continued entrusting himself to Him who judges justly.”)

In David’s crying out to the LORD verse 12 reminds us there is a way out for the persecutors, they can seek the LORD and repent.  This verse reminds those who are faithful to prefer and pray for their oppressors—that they would repent and turn to the LORD rather than suffer punishment.

David closes in confidence of our LORD and reminds us HIS faithfulness in verse 17:

I give thanks to the LORD the thanks due His righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High.

This Psalm reminds me of the gracious goodness and steadfast love and righteousness of our LORD.

Whatever the circumstances we face: whether small difficulties in our daily lives or larger difficulties that involve health, marriage, and jobs, or even as we remember the Christians around the world that lose their homes and lives because of their belief in the LORD…this Psalm reminds our LORD will judge righteously; we are to pray and cry out to Him not only for ourselves and the circumstances we face but on behalf of others involved in the circumstances and then we are to thank Him and sing HIS praise for HE is alone is righteous, wise and worthy of our praise!
