Psalm 47

Read Psalm 47

All we who believe, let us clap hands and raise a joyful noise to our God, who is truly worthy to be praised! His kingdom is growing more each day. We may not always see it clearly, but our Lord is always at work (without neglecting rest of course), and He has been at work since long before we joined in. Our God is the God of Abraham. Through his covenant with the Israelites, God paved the way for his family to grow, for his light to shine bright in a fallen world, for his power to conquer other spiritual forces at work, for his Word to be shared throughout the nations, and for his son Jesus to set us free. “For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise.”

As I reflect on Psalm 47 and the long history behind its words, I have to admit how often I take for granted the sheer magnitude of God’s story. I get caught up in my own story, feeling overwhelmed by this or that, trying to grow as I go, but I forget who I should turn to no matter where I am. Let’s turn to the God who was, who is, and who always will be. Let’s thank the Lord for all he has done for us. Let’s continue his work with him, and let’s sing to him more psalms of praise.
