Psalm 20

Read Psalm 20

Life brings seasons of changes.  Some of the changes are full of joy such as a new grandson, and some changes are difficult such as caring for an aging mother. In the midst of the joy and the struggles there is peace that comes only from standing firmly on the foundation that will not be moved, Jesus Christ our LORD and His Word.

Psalm 20 to me is a great reminder that our trust is in the name of the LORD our God!  He alone can sustain, lead, protect and guide us as we walk through any season of life. This psalm reminds me to renew my mind, just as we are talking about in Romans 12:2,

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

As we walk through any changes, especially if they are difficult ones, my mind tends to lean towards worry, fear and to be anxious about the “what if’s”, and wishing I had done something different. A good friend wisely reminds me often that God supplies us with grace in the moment when we need it and God does not give grace for our imagination…so just trust Him!

So walking through this season of wonderful grand-kids and an aging mom to care for, my mind is renewed in this psalm of the truth that the LORD hears the prayers of His children and is near…..my mind is not to be filled with fear of the unknown but my mind should be filled with thanksgiving and praise to the One I know has redeemed and saved my soul. (verses 4-5) Verse 7 says,

“Some trust in chariots and some in trust in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”

And, as Charles Swindoll says:  “Ultimately every believer in Jesus Christ must come to the place where he/she is going to trust God’s Word completely before we can experience His peace. His Book is our single source of tangible truth. We try every crutch: we lean on self, on others, on feelings, on bank accounts, on good works, on logic and reason, on human perspective. Still churning continues, inner turmoil continues to grind. God has given us His written Word and the promise of His light to guide all His children. When we will learn to believe it, and live in it, and use it, and cling to His promises?”

Psalm 20 encourages me to believe and trust the LORD and to cling to Him alone in this season of change.
