Psalm 66

Read Psalm 66.

Psalm 66 stands out amongst the intimate prayers of David or even the declarations of praise to God. This psalm is an invitation to acknowledge God as awesome and powerful. Not only are we reminded of events of the past, like God turning the sea into dry land, but our attention is also turned towards the things He continues to do like ruling by His might forever, keeping watch on the nations (v7) and not letting our foot slip (v9). In verse 16 we receive a second invitation to “come and hear”, but this time it is of what God has done personally for the author. He has listened to his prayer and not rejected it.

I need this invitation. I need to be invited to recognize God’s goodness in general. I also need to be invited to recognize where God is at work in your life. This simple show-and-tell increases our faith. Knowing God is at work in the lives of our church family makes God real amid our doubt and gives us endurance to trust Him more. I challenge you to invite your GC to “come and see” what God is doing in your life. It doesn’t have to be well thought out or even complete. Chances are it will be messy. I think you’ll be surprised what God can do through you sharing. I have been.

In the meantime, here is a Robbie Seay Band song based on Psalm 66.
