Psalm 108

Read Psalm 108

This Psalm is beautifully challenging and filled with truths about God. David opens the Psalm with “My heart is steadfast (resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering), O God”. David is able to have this stance because God’s “steadfast love is great above the heavens + your faithfulness reaches to the clouds” (v. 4). I am challenged by David’s declaration and ability to sing “with all his heart” because I often feel far from steadfast or as if I am doing anything with all my heart.

David prays fervently: “be exalted… let your glory be over all the earth, that your beloved ones may be delivered”. I was recently listening to a family discipleship podcast and Dr. Joel Beeke challenged parents to intercede fervently for their children. May I be challenged to action by David and Dr. Beeke.

David is bold and honest with God “give salvation by your right hand and answer me!” (6). “With God we shall do valiantly” (13). At women’s brunch recently there was a lot of good truth, encouragement, and honesty. When I am struggling/despairing I tend to numb/avoid… certainty what feels like the opposite of boldly praying to and talking to God.

Christ City Church: because of God’s steadfast love, we can trust that He answers prayers and gives salvation in all areas of our lives. Our hearts can truly be satisfied while still chasing after God’s glory… and not our own… and what true freedom that would bring.
