Psalm 6

As I read Psalm 6, I am struck by the honesty and raw emotion that the psalmist comes to God with. As men and women that follow Jesus, I am sure we have all experienced seasons when we feel like we are in the pit—overcome by sorrow, despair, doubt. We feel like we are going to die! Spiritually, mentally, possibly physically; grief can feel too great to bear at times.

But then—Jesus. I think of his humanity. How God came to walk among us in all the beauty and despair our flesh has to offer. How he cried out similarly to God as he faced his own death and penalty for our sin.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15

Jesus understands us in every way.

He has faced the darkness and has risen victoriously. We can cry out to God, knowing that he hears us. We can draw near to God in confidence because Jesus has prepared the way for us.
