Psalm 81

Read Psalm 81

This psalm reminds me of my stubbornness and forgetfulness. It’s a call for me to remember, and return.

In this psalm, we see that God is not just afar and indifferent to us, but passionate and longing to free us from burdens, strengthen and deliver us from bondage and fear, and satisfy us with the best of the best. As he’s done for us before.

But I still return to worship other gods. I worship my fears. My desire to do things perfectly. I worship comfort and mindlessness and numbness. I choose to do things my own way over His. While God allows the consequences of my choices to center my mind and heart around these things, he doesn’t want that for me. He longs for me to return to His presence so he can give good gifts that fill me up, give me joy and peace.

If only we would listen to His voice, and open our hearts for Him to fill, he would satisfy us with honey.
