Psalm 7

Read Psalm 7

Psalm 7 reminds us that the Lord is our refuge in a scary world, our righteous savior as we are surrounded by sin, and our shield against all evil.

David pleads with God to be rescued …Save me from all my pursuers, lest like a lion they tear my soul apart, rending it in pieces… (v. 1-2)

The enemy wants to divide our hearts, break us down, isolate us. God is a righteous judge. He will not let division and brokenness prevail. Sin may be crouching at my door, but Christ my Savior is with me in my room.

We want brokenness healed, division unified. Deep down we know we need to be saved from the enemy and ourselves (v. 3-5).

Thankfully, God tests minds and hearts, establishes the righteous, and saves the upright in heart (v9-10). He is our shield. Because he is a powerful protector, we can be healed and walk in peace. Sin is no longer our master.

If God is righteous and destroying sin day by day, what is our role? Verse 12 shows us that we must repent. We must turn from our sin and turn toward Jesus day by day.

How often do I go about my days without acknowledging the lion trying to tear me to pieces? How often do I repent half-heartedly, or worse, make no effort to repent at all? Why do I fall into the same traps of sin again and again? Why do we still suffer with divided hearts and divided relationships?

Christ City, please pray with me: Father in heaven, you alone have the power over sin and evil. You alone are the refuge and shield we need to be healed. You alone can bring us to unity as families and as a family of faith. Forgive us our sins today and make us new. As we seek forgiveness, we turn toward Jesus - the Christ - the one who came to save. O that we would seek him with all our hearts day after day. Do not let us drift away from you. Thank you that because of his perfection, his joy is our joy. His righteousness is our righteousness. He endured the cross, and we are enduring challenges in this pilgrimage toward you. Thank you for the joy you set before Jesus, and for the joy you set before us. We will sing praise to your name Lord, the Most High. Amen.
